I hope you guys have enjoyed this last week of TMNT videos. Of course, after playing through Mutants in Manhattan, Trevorkian and I had to do a video about our thoughts on the latest movie. What did we think?
If you're not going to watch the video, fine. I can't make you. But we liked the movie. As lifelong turtles fans, there was enough here to keep us entertained.
The movie does have some problems for sure, like the human characters. Casey Jones could have been better, and Shredder doesn't do much besides bring the enemies to the turtles' attention.
But the Turtles themselves are handled in a way that I liked. The movie dealt with some deep stuff about them not being welcome above, trying to form their team, and loyalty issues.
Make no mistake, this is a kids movie first. So while it's not the same tone as something like The Dark Knight, I do believe this is equal to the "The Dark Knight" of the TMNT movies series. What it does for the characters of the turtles themselves, hasn't been done successfully in live action since the original 1990 movie. They had personalities, story arcs, and each one grew over the course of the film.
I get that people hate this universe of the Turtles too. If I could change some things, I would. It's not perfect, but it's also not THAT bad. I mean, it could always be worse.
