Over the last few days, I've been creating The Defenders in the style of Teen Titans GO! And now it's time to reveal the final drawing of all four heroes.
I'm not even gonna make you scroll all the way down to see it. Here it is.
Boom! There it is.
Now I didn't record a timelapse video if this drawing, but I will let you know what the process was for creating this masterpiece.
Daily Drawing #7
So to start out the process, I came up with the idea to combine Teen Titans GO! with the Defenders. So I had to find some reference images and quickly sketched out all 4 outlines I would be using.
People may frown, but yeah, I traced an image of the Teen Titans in Sketchbook. My goal here was to recreate that style as best I could, so that's how I started the process.
From there I switched to a different drawing program I use, Toon Boom Studio. (It's actually an animation software, and the drawing tools have a different "feel". A lot of professional animators use Toon Boom actually for many animated series, like Bob's Burgers and even Family Guy.)
So I created the first character that I revealed, Luke Cage. I used the basic outline of Cyborg, and then just filled in the details with those of Cage.
Daily Drawing #8
Most of the setup work was done the day before, so all I had to do on this day was really draw another character. This worked out well too because I didn't have as much time to draw as I would have wanted. (Family, streams, etc...)
So I went with my favorite Marvel hero, Daredevil. Using the rough outline over Robin, I drew basic features of the Netflix suit and presto, we had a The Man Without Fear.
Daily Drawing #9
Using Starfire's body, but Raven's face, I had a pretty good sketch to use as Jessica Jones. So this one was really easy, and didn't take very long.
In fact, I actually started sketching out ideas for the background as well, just to get a head start.
Daily Drawing #10
With only one character left, I actually started just before midnight. I was excited to see how Iron Fist would turn out, and even more excited to see the final image with all four heroes.
So I had all 4 heroes ready, and the background was coming along nicely too. I worked on it until about 2 am.
Now backgrounds are not my strong suit. This one was simplified, to fit that Teen Titans GO! style, but I did use some reference images of Hell's Kitchen and created my own scene using 1 point perspective.
I didn't wanna spend too much time focusing on the small details, because the characters are the spotlight here.
I am very happy with the final result, and having a blast with the Art Everyday Challenge. In fact, I have decided to step up my game, and start trying to use Photoshop. I'd like to be able to make art professionally from home someday, so I need to start using the proper tools. Wish me luck.
Who knows what I will end up creating tomorrow? If you have something you want to see me attempt, let me know.
