After drawing The Defenders in the Teen Titans GO style last week, it was suggested that I should do the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I have been quietly sketching out designs for those characters all week. Today, I drew Captain America and Iron Man.
So long story short, Reddit loved that Defenders pic. And it was suggested to do more, so I am. I have almost all of the characters sketched out. (At least all of the main heroes that I will be adding.)
As far as the process, I start with images from Teen Titans GO! and I do a light trace of a pose that I want. Like with this screenshot with Robin looking really proud.
In Sketchbook Pro, I have the image on a layer and drop it's opacity down, so it is almost invisible. Then I draw in the details for whatever Marvel character I need, over the image.
When I remove the reference image, I am left with a sketch that looks like this.
What I did today, was bring the Captain America and Iron Man sketches into Toon Boom Studio and there I draw the final design over the sketch in the same way.
Then I add in any remaining details and color, and voila. We have a Teen Titan styled Marvel character.
I may throw some more characters out here like today, if I don't have time to really dive into a deep drawing. These are quick, easy, little characters, but at least I'm still getting practice.
I am hoping to have the final image with all of the characters finished by the weekend. So definitely stay tuned to see that.
